USAID Bureau for Resilience and Food Security

Evidence Cycle for Agriculture-Led Growth

A connected evidence cycle for agriculture-led growth decision workflows.

Project overview

What this project was built to help with

USAID's Bureau for Resilience and Food Security needed a stronger evidence cycle for agriculture-led growth. The work aggregated programmatic approaches, mapped intervention-level evidence, calculated cost per intervention, and identified future research priorities so technical teams could make cost-informed decisions with a broader evidence base.

Project story

Cost-informed evidence for agriculture-led growth

For USAID's Bureau for Resilience and Food Security, the Evidence Cycle was about making agriculture and food-system evidence usable in programmatic choices. Teams needed more than a literature list; they needed intervention-level evidence, cost information, and a clearer view of research gaps.

The project aggregated programmatic approaches, mapped evidence at the intervention level, and calculated cost per intervention. The work enlarged the documented technical approach base, identified 18 research priorities, and gave the Bureau cost estimates that could support cost-informed decision-making for the first time across the evidence cycle.

Decision problem

USAID's resilience and food-security teams needed a stronger evidence cycle for agriculture-led growth decisions. Evidence on programmatic approaches, intervention performance, cost, research gaps, food systems, markets, and resilience was spread across many products and difficult to use consistently in design and investment decisions.

What the work involved

1

Aggregated evidence for programmatic approaches and mapped it at the intervention level so technical teams could compare what had been documented.

2

Calculated cost per intervention and surfaced research gaps, giving the Bureau a stronger basis for cost-informed and evidence-informed decisions.

3

Expanded the documented base of technical approaches and identified research priorities to guide future agriculture, resilience, and food-system investments.

Outcome

More usable evidence for agriculture-led growth strategy and program decisions.
